Seriously Geeky Sundays: Coventions

If 2020 was a saying I think “best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” comes to mind.  This weekend is no different as it was due to be San Diego Comic Con.  Most events this year have been cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic.  However, that means we get to look back on all our previous convention experiences and think about the future.  Thanks to Just Geeking By and Seriously Geeky Sundays for providing the prompts and inspiration as always.

Have you been to a convention and if so, how many?

Yes a few comic cons and a few gaming events.  Probably still less than 10 in total but I’m hoping to get to some more in the future.  This year I had hoped to head to at least one comic con, if not two, with perhaps a gaming event in the mix as well.  However, this wasn’t meant to be.  There is always another year for this!

What was the last convention you went to?

The last one was probably a comic con (though I now can’t think)…. anyway it was one that I didn’t meet anyone but did look at all the geeky stuff on sale.

What is your favourite convention memory?

Sometimes there’s moments that can only happen at conventions.  It’s when it sounds like a set up for a joke like when does the Joker, Princess Leia and Rainbow Dash walk into a bar.  It’s when you see the joy from the cosplayers meeting each other and people recognising their characters and when the kids get so excited by seeing someone who looks like their favourite characters it is just perfect.  A more specific one is us having a laugh with one of the actors who was there.  He kept just getting up out of his chair and going to chat to people nearby.  He was full of excitement and it was so nice to see that he wanted to talk to fans and just people who were there even if they weren’t fans of things that he was in.  He was such a delight.  The person assigned to sit with him and sort the queue for him was also lovely but did say keeping an eye on him was harder than normal as he was quite often off and chatting to people away from his signing table.

Which convention would you love to go to?

I would love to go to EGX and/or Rezzed, a London Comic Con and one of the American comic cons, probably New York or San Diego.  Each of these would be fantastic experiences and the opportunities to see these events in person would be amazing.   I had hoped to head to London Comic Con this year but that didn’t go exactly as planned.  One day!

Who are you hoping to see at a convention next?

Whilst I don’t know if she does conventions I would love to meet Ashly Burch.  Her voice work is amazing and I’d just love to meet her at a convention one day.

What is your favourite purchase from a convention?

I have bought quite a few things at conventions over the years.  Some of my favourites are the Pikachu plushies and the adoptable Dittos.

  1. Hello. I’m new to blogging and I have a gaming website called the sharp shark. I came across one of your posts (I think it was about animal crossing.) and then found your wonderful site. I read your blogs every Sunday and really enjoy it. Keep up the good work!
