National Moon Day occurs on 20th July each year to commemorate the day in which the first moon landing took place. On this day in 1969 the Apollo 11 crew landed on the moon and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took those famous leaps. The Apollo 11 moon landing was an absolutely incredible feat and one that inspired generations. Therefore today Just Geeking By and Seriously Geeky Sundays celebrates adventures in galaxies near, far and fictional.
What is your favourite sci-fi fandom?
It has to be one of the stars. Star Wars or Star Trek. Whilst being fairly new to both in the grand scheme of things both impact me and are the big sci-fi fandoms that I come back to.
What is your favourite fictional planet?
I love visiting planets in Mass Effect (any game). Can I just pick all of them?
Who is your favourite alien character?
Liara T’Soni, closely followed by Garrus and Tali and Mordin and Wrex and Peebee and…. Basically anyone from the Mass Effect universe. I love learning about their different cultures, beliefs and aspects of their history. Mass Effect as a series makes this so interesting.
What is your favourite alien species?
Asari. Again, a Mass Effect answer. The asari are one of the founding members of the Citadel Council and are a species that generally plan and consider their actions. Asari are referred to as female, however they are all single gendered but take partners of any gender and any species. They value time with a partner, even though they will likely outlive them. There is a wisdom in their beliefs as well as such dedication to peace and knowledge that is inspiring.
What alien creature would you like to have as a pet?
I would love a Porg as a pet. Or a Chocobo.
What is the most visually stunning alien landscape you’ve seen in a fandom?
So many of the landscapes in the Star Wars universe come to mind. I can’t pick a specific one. However, have some game screenshots from a few games where the landscapes were too beautiful to ignore even if they aren’t necessarily “alien” landscapes.
Do you dream of galaxies far, far away? Where is your favourite?
