Seriously Geeky Sundays: Technology

Alan Turing was a British mathematician and computer scientist who developed the Enigma machine during World War II.  As a celebration of his birthday earlier this week (23rd June 1912), Seriously Geeky Sundays by Just Geeking By discusses technology.

There is so much good technology in geeky media and fandoms but also some strange inventions.  The celebration of technology allows us to look at both.

What is the weirdest fictional technology item you’ve seen?

The Doctor Octopus arms in the Spider-Man universe.  I always found those arms/appendages weird.  I get the uses for Doc but I just find it strange.  Though he was a villain and scientist so I guess it is maybe a good thing that it wasn’t worse.

What is the most disastrous technological innovation?

The Death Star was pretty disastrous.

Who is your favourite robot/droid?

I love my droids and robots in geekdom.  BB-8 (Star Wars) is my ultimate favourite.

However, honourable mentions go to Data (Star Trek: The Next Generation – also I refuse to acknowledge the end of the Nemesis film as I was so upset when I first saw it that Data died), R2-D2 and C-3PO (Star Wars) and BD-1 (Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order).  I love the humour that can come from droids and how expressive they can be even with movements or beeps.

What fictional futuristic item do you think will become real one day?

I would love something that let us fly without wings.  So rocket boots or something like that.

What futuristic vehicle would you love to take for a ride?

Can I go between several? For a car type vehicle, the Batmobile.  For a space ship type vehicle, I need to have a go with the Millenium Falcon.  I mean I would love to just explore the inside of it but also if I could fly it I would be amazed.

If you could have any character/celebrity be the personality for a supercomputer, who would it be?

I would love Patrick Stewart to be the personality.  For starters, his accent and voice is so calming to me.  In addition given his variety of acting work from the stage and Shakespeare to films he could have something for every occasion.  It would always be interesting.

Alternatively I would love Ashly Burch.  She voices so many characters I love and always seems like a really cool person online.  I think she would also be perfect.
