I recently, well a while ago now, saw Just Geeking By sharing a post from her blog archive that was a Geeky Girl Tag and after reading the questions and her responses I decided to add it to my list of blog posts to do. This tag was originally created by Zombie Goddess Beauty in this post and comes with lots of interesting questions to answer. So I finally post my answers today!
- What is your must have tech gadget?
I didn’t think I would ever want a tablet. I didn’t see the use of it. In the last couple of years my other half got a tablet (it was actually intended for his parents and then ended up his) and seeing him using it (and borrowing it from time to time) I saw how useful it was. Later down the line I ended up getting one of my own in a sale and I really enjoy it. I now use it a lot for blogging, like for making some of the images I use in my posts or for sharing posts on social media, I keep lists and notes on it or access them on the tablet. I still keep my standard notepad for these but I do have some things kept on the tablet. I love it and as a blogger I find it so useful. It also helps as I don’t need to contend with PC updates if I want to check on a blog post!
- Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?
I think all houses have their place. I love Hufflepuff because they tend to be underestimated, although who wouldn’t want to be in the “nice” house. You know the house where friendship and kindness is valued. Then there is Ravenclaw. I love their colours and the fact that logic and intelligence is valued. Would I be clever enough for Ravenclaw? I have no idea, but I would like to be at home there as well. The obvious choice is always Gryffindor and yes I love the red and gold colours. I love that honour and bravery is valued, and the fact that Gryffindor seems to be a real family house. Of course that is mainly because when you follow the books and films you see every Weasley become a Gryffindor and you see Harry follow in his parents footsteps. What can I say about Slytherin? There are positives to them. Not every Slytherin is evil, the tendencies valued by this house have the potential for good. They are determined, resourceful and ambitious. These can mean that they aim high and it would be good if you were sure you wanted to be something specific when you grow up. I don’t think I would be at home in Slytherin as I’m not determined enough but it isn’t necessarily a bad option.
- Who is your favourite Doctor?
Before I answer this I want to say I haven’t seen all the old (ie pre Christopher Eccleston) Doctors and I also haven’t seen the most recent series (Jodie Whittaker).
My favourite is David Tennant. I loved his acting as the Doctor and how he portrayed the Doctor. Also his suit and converse combination is awesome. I could basically live in my converses so I think his aesthetic is pretty much what I would aspire to.
- If you could have dinner with any fictional character who would it be?
I would love to meet so many fictional characters. However I am going to choose Liara (Mass Effect). I’d love to talk to her about her research and Asari culture. She has so much knowledge and would be such an interesting character to talk to.
- What is your gaming system of choice?
- If you had a superpower what would it be?
I’d love to be able to fly. I could avoid getting stuck in traffic jams, I could see what the birds see whilst they are flying and I could visit people so much easier than I do at the moment. I do admit that these are rather mundane reasons to choose a superpower but they are the ones that I would use it for. I mean I’m pretty well known for giving cool questions mundane, yet accurate, answers on this blog so I may as well roll with it.
- What is your favourite fantasy world?
The Harry Potter universe. I love that it is a mix of the real world with the fantasy of magic and a world that is hidden away from the “real” muggle world. I’m still waiting on my letter! Just saying that it could have got lost in the post…
- If you could be any fictional race, what would you be?
Asari. Basically I think I would quite like to be Liara.
- Star Trek or Star Wars?
I like both. I’m not a fan that knows everything about either and I only saw a full series of any Star Trek or all the Star Wars films (don’t even ask about the spinoffs) within the last 5 years or so. However, I enjoy both. If I had to choose Star Trek might edge it, even if only because my other half absolutely adores it and his enthusiasm is infectious. Also Deep Space Nine then Next Generation and I haven’t watched any other Trek series other than a few episodes per series.
- List your top 5 geektastic movies or TV series.
I don’t know if all of these will count as geektastic but films and TV shows that I can geek out about or are geeky in some way that I love are:
The Big Bang Theory – so I know a lot if people don’t like this show but I enjoyed it. I haven’t watched it in a while, so I do not know how this last series has gone (do not spoil it for me!). I stopped watching because some of the things I was most anxious about involved education so the characters (most of the main characters anyway) having doctorates, working in a university and talking about that sort of thing was a struggle for me. I do want to go back and watch the episodes that I haven’t seen and see how it goes but not right now.
Harry Potter – the love I have for the books, films and games is huge. The details in everything is phenomenal. If you ever get the opportunity to visit the studio tour in Watford (London, UK) you will be amazed. There are details in the sets and the costumes that would rarely be noticed but are there due to the love and tribute to the books and world. Plus those books were my world and a comfort in bad times, they lead me to things that ended up with me meeting my other half, the characters became my friends and inspiration. Harry Potter is one of my absolute favourites for everything.
Criminal Minds – this is more me being geektastic about this. I can binge watch this so many times and the amount of details in this is geektastic. I love how the characters develop and seeing their unique skills and uniqueness is fascinating.
Numbers – now I realise that I’m a bit of a numbers/maths geek or at least was (that’s complicated). So this programme was something I was drawn to. I loved the absolute geeky details of the mathematics and statistics of it, plus other sciences, and I even learnt a thing or two about certain mathematical problems.
Forensic Files – I have been watching this on Netflix recently. I love seeing how the forensics help solve cases especially when they have gone cold. The science, particularly the progress in forensics, is so interesting and I realise how creepy it perhaps seems when I talk about this in a geektastic way but it is so interesting.
- List your top 5 favourite video games.
All the games. I hate choosing but as of the time of writing (and probably will have changed by the time of posting) my top 5 are:
Mass Effect (trilogy – yes I’m cheating a little)
