I recently “met” the lovely Jordan from My Flourishing Retrospect who has been kind enough to nominate me for a Sunshine Blogger Award. Check out Jordan’s blog for baking, Sims, lots of great posts and a lovely looking blog.
The Sunshine Blogger Award is lovely and recognises bloggers for their hard work and being an inspiration to others (maybe I’m not quite up to that part yet but close enough). Anyway, bloggers nominate each other and give questions for each other to answer which is lovely and good fun too.
I feel like I have posted the rules to a Sunshine Blogger Award enough that longer term followers will know them now, however, I am actually going to nominate some people today so the rules are as follows:
Thank the blogger and link to their blog
Display the Sunshine Blogger logo
List the rules in the blog post
Answer the 11 questions provided by the blogger who nominated you
Nominate 11 other bloggers for the award and provide 11 questions for them to answer
Now to the questions I was asked.
What made you start blogging?
Honestly blogging is something that I had considered for years, and each time promptly decided that no I shouldn’t because I have nothing to say or I’m not good enough or whatever. Fun fact, blogs I had considered starting were based around my art and craft projects (back when I did them far more regularly than I do now), sort of lifestyle I guess (more about me, my life, general things I find interesting) and of course gaming. It would rotate around these when blogging came back into my mind but primarily between crafting and gaming blogs. Anyway, moving forward to when I decided to start my blog. It was probably June (ish) 2017 (I now can’t remember/decide which month it was that I made the decision to start one) and I decided I was going to go for it. I was looking for something, what I don’t know, but something different to give me something else to think about, a way to create and a way to share my thoughts and love of games. I was going through a rough time, though not the worst as it turned out and thought this would help. Sure it then took me until August 2017 to create the site and start posting but I celebrated one year of blogging last year and I have to say it was a fantastic decision to start. It has actually helped, even if sometimes I need a break as things are hard but blogging is one of the best things I have done. Despite my regular quiet spells I will always be coming up with ideas, drafting posts or thinking about blog things even if I am not actively posting.
If you could go to any one place in the world where would you go?
There are several places I would love to go, either for specific events or just to sightsee. I would love to travel to some more places. So my top choices at the moment would be to go to Japan, specifically . This may be influenced by seeing some pictures from a friend having travelled there this year but it is one of those places that I would just love to see. Also it is the home of Nintendo and Pokémon so it would be exciting for me. Second choice is New Zealand, I would love to travel through and just see the sights. It seems like such a beautiful place. Thirdly, I would love to go several places in the USA but I would love to go to San Diego Comic Con or New York Comic Con. That may be extra geeky but it just sounds so amazing, being at either Con, and I would love to experience it and then also see the other sights obviously.
What’s one thing that you can’t leave the house without?
My keys? Seriously, other than the usual suspects of keys, phone, purse I would say I can’t leave the house without at least one hair tie, usually 2 or 3.
What’s your dream job?
I still don’t think I know. I thought I did, but that hasn’t been the best experience and in some ways I wish I had gone a completely different route or at least a partially different route. I once considered the gaming jobs I’d like but I still don’t consider “real” life options. I guess I just don’t know and my adulting is just taking care of me and getting through at the moment. Though Dragon’s Tea Party tweeted at one point about wanting the job as the person who films the animals around the Bake Off tent for the Great British Bake Off and I think that would be fantastic so that job would be the dream. Channel 4 should get in touch for the next series!
What’s your favourite type of animal(s)?
I love animals so how long a list can I go for? I love dolphins, owls, elephants and penguins for wild animals. For pet animals, my favourites are dogs, cats, gerbils and rabbits, though I haven’t personally owned all of these but I love them. Oh and I always love seeing butterflies and Robins flying around. Honest, I will stop now!
What’s your favourite type of sweet?
I don’t eat too many sweets but I do quite like sherbet lemons and pear drops.
My top choices are gaming (I know you would never have guessed), Lego building and arts and crafts. I don’t get enough time to do arty stuff so doing Inktober last year was fantastic even though it only lasted 3 weeks (turns out starting a job and trying to do Inktober don’t go that well together – who knew?!). I did want to do more cross stitch last year but that went downhill, it was a nice plan but didn’t work out. I have some drawing ideas that I might start in to get some more practice in and some relaxation at the same time.
What’s your favourite TV show, book, movie or video game?
I answered the TV show question on this blog already somewhere (I think), along with some other questions, but basically I love Criminal Minds. For books I love the Harry Potter series. They all hold a special place in my heart and so many good memories come from Harry Potter things. I really need to re-read all of these books again some time. As for movies, I don’t watch a lot of them now, I will say Disney films. That feels like a cop out but I can’t choose but I love Disney films and other animated films too. Video game favourites change all the time depending on what I’m playing or how I’m feeling or what I’m looking forward to. At the moment, for nostalgia reasons Pokémon Blue/Red/Yellow, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, for recent plays Yakuza 0 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, for overall I think I will always love these would be Just Dance (any edition), Mass Effect series and Picross games.
What’s your favourite type of food?
I’m a very simple person food wise. My honest choice would be chocolate muffins or something unhealthy and snacky, but actual proper meal type food would be some form of Spaghetti or Pasta Bolognese. It’s just a lovely comfort dinner and makes me feel happy. Especially so when my other half makes the Bolognese from scratch, less so if he does the pasta/spaghetti to go with it as that doesn’t come naturally to him.
What’s your favourite type of blog post to write?
I love getting involved in community events like Question of the Month from Later Levels, or when I did Charming and Open for Adventure Rules or Creative Christmas last year from Later Levels or Blogmas for AmbiGaming. Oh and the World Cup event for Shoot the Rookie or getting involved in the best fashion show in the video game world for OverThinkerY and Shoot the Rookie. It is just so much fun and such a great way to be a part of something bigger. Of ideas that I come up with I love writing my Overheard in a Game Shop post, sadly they aren’t regular posts these days, because I love sharing those little moments and I think the good ones are important to remember.
What advice would you give to a newbie blogger?
Be yourself, blog for you and post what you are happy with as followers will find you later and get involved in the community. Getting involved in the community can be anything from liking and/or commenting on a blog post, interacting on social media, liking/sharing posts on social media or just following them and reading blog posts. Every little bit is appreciated by everyone and even though I know I haven’t been as good at this over the past few months I aim to read as many posts as I can and comment where I can. This is also so much fun as you get to know other bloggers and make friends, and honestly this community is the most supportive place I know.
My nominees are *drum roll*
My questions for you all, should you decide to take up this offer, are:
What game are you most looking forward to this year?
If you could play a game for the first time again, what game would you choose?
If you could be a part of a game series, which series would you choose and what role do you see yourself in?
Who is your favourite character from any game?
If you could visit any in game world where would you most like to visit?
What is your favourite thing to do in spring?
If you could visit any place in the world where would you go?
What was the last film you watched and would you recommend it?
What blog post of yours are you most proud of?
What is your favourite soundtrack (game, film, TV show, etc)?
If you were to learn something new (skill, hobby, subject) what would you want to learn?
