July gaming

It’s the end of July, the end of my month as star blogger and the end of a month of gaming. This month has been stressful and so much fun for me as a gamer.

This month has been a month of a lot of Crash Bandicoot N-sane Trilogy. A lot. Don’t judge me, but I have the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions and have been playing both. In some ways I’m better at it on one version or the other but not equally good on both. So far I have been playing Crash Bandicoot and … There have been lots of fun moments, mixed in with platforming stress.

I continued a bit of Just Dance 2018 (Xbox 360). The main issue I had was the heat as I struggled to do much dancing but I tried. Dancing is still fun but I need it a little cooler before I start dancing these days. Towards the end of the month I managed a bit more but not as much as I planned/hoped for.

Another Kinect game I played was Harry Potter for Kinect (Xbox 360). To know me is to know I have a massive soft spot for the Harry Potter universe. I love the Harry Potter books, films, and basically anything else you can imagine really. My story with this game is quite funny though. I have had it for years. Originally I didn’t know it existed, it was mentioned to me by Player 2 and I thought I’d buy it as a present for him as he is also a fan, it was something we could both play and enjoy and we actually met because of Harry Potter. Turns out he had the same idea so we now have two copies. That all happened a few years ago, but times where Kinect games were not really possible due to space I had only completed a tiny bit of the game. I have now got through most of the story and just have a few extra blackboard lessons to try out and Year 6 and 7 to complete.

I started Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4). I was very excited to start this. Having heard so many good things about it I was worried that I would then be a bit disappointed as it didn’t live up to expectations or I would feel like I knew it despite staying away from any knowledge of what happens. So far I’m loving this. I just want to keep going. I hope that I can reach the end of the main story by the end of the year.

As you can probably guess I think I’ve gone off the rails with my plans for games to complete this year. However, I can honestly say I don’t mind. I’m playing games I enjoy and even though I still want to play the games on this list, other than the ones I have already, I’m fine with playing what I want and feel like. I might get round to some of these by the end of the year but if I don’t I accept that too. Though I do need to get back to Dishonored at some point!

What have you been playing this month? Let me know in the comments.

    1. Are you enjoying Hollow Knight so far? I haven’t played it but the art for it looks amazing. Just the style looks like it adds to the feel of the game. Or so it seems from a completely outside source with only screenshots and pictures to base that off.

  1. This month I have been playing Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden on my Vita. I have been spending a lot of time lately playing games on it lately. It’s so fun and it has great games!

I also got Just Dance 2018 this month for the Switch and it’s fun!

I hope you enjoy Horizon Zero Dawn, it is one of my favorite games! I recommend taking it slowly and focusing on exploring. It’s fun to look around and find the collectibles in the game!

    1. I’m taking Horizon Zero Dawn slowly. I’m getting my way round the collectibles at the moment. I have all the bandages, Banuk figures and ancient vessels and am one or two metal flowers short of complete for them. I’m really enjoying exploring and trying to do the side quests/errands etc.

I love the Just Dance games. I need to get back to playing it again now it is cooling down slightly. I’m not prepared for dancing in the heat! That doesn’t end well. I hope you enjoy your dancing time. Are you trying to get scores for the online rounds of the Just Dance World Cup?

Hope you are having a great time playing on your Vita.

      1. This is my first Just Dance game and I started playing because I like to dance! I haven’t been doing anything online, but it’s still a lot of fun!

Have fun playing all of your games!

  2. I’ve been playing Monster Hunter World, several Resident Evil games and Shadow Warrior. Also I’ve become somewhat addicted to Fallout Shelter.

Horizon Zero Dawn is great, one of the best games that came out in 2017.

    1. I am not brave enough to play a Resident Evil game. I keep hearing people talk about Fallout Shelter and mainly in the same way as you becoming slightly addicted to it.

Horizon Zero Dawn is so good. I’m so glad I’m able to play it.

      1. Whenever a game wants me to keep people happy I end up being so obsessed with their happiness. Like the people in Stardew Valley I am so keen to have them all be friends with me and I get so disappointed when they don’t like the gift I have given them.

  3. Good luck with your grand gaming goals! I’m ashamed to say I haven’t really played a Crash game yet. OMG, Horizon Zero Dawn is amazing! I got the Platinum Trophy for it last year and loved every minute with Aloy. Enjoy!

For me, I’m still chugging away at Mass Effect Andromeda and enjoying myself a lot. I sadly got my eye on the Platinum trophy now ( I have a problem), so we’ll see how that goes, haha. I have to beat the main story first before thinking about trophy things 🙂

    1. I’m loving Horizon and Aloy so far. Any tips for the hunting grounds? I’m terrible at doing them fast enough. I need to go back and see if I can get better but I’m having fun exploring at the moment.

I’m glad you are enjoying Mass Effect Andromeda. Good luck if you try to get the platinum but see how it all goes first.

      1. Aloy is just freaking awesome! I saved the all the Hunting Grounds for when I was super leveled with the best quality weapons, which helped A LOT! The Glinthawk tie down one was still absolutely brutal for me, haha. Good luck!

        Thank you! 🙂

      2. Aloy is! I absolutely love her. I tried the Glinthawk one the other day and it didn’t go well… probably unsurprisingly. I did another that I was 7 seconds off Blazing Sun on my first go and was so upset. It’s so close and yet not good enough and it was my own stupidity that caused that (I selected the wrong type of weapon at the start and wondered why it wasn’t doing what I expected). I’m trying them all to see what they are like but probably leaving them again until I’m stronger/got better weapons. I just want the reward in the Hunters Lodge if you get their requirements haha. Only got to do really well in everything… no pressure haha.

      3. My biggest problem with that one was aggroing EVERYTHING else in the Hunting Ground, haha. Ouch!! You were so close. You got this, though! It’s a fun challenge 🙂

      4. It is fun. I redid that challenge and made it far quicker this time. I’ve got 5 blazing suns so far. Not attempted all the hunting grounds yet but listened to all the keepers about what I have to at them. I’m not looking forward to retrying the glinthawk one. I just aggravated everything when I first tried it.

I have done all the corruption zones, bandit camps, cauldrons, banuk figures, metal flowers, ancient vessels. I’m trying to level a bit more with the tutorials for weapons that I hadn’t done and then start the next main mission. I haven’t got any side quests/errands that I can do right now other than starting the frozen wilds and I’m leaving that until after I play the main game.

      5. I had a really sweet set of armor when I did the Glinthawk one…. I’m not saying more in case it spoils anything, haha.

Wow! You’re doing great for progression. I didn’t get Frozen Wilds so you’ll have to let me know what you think of it!

      6. I think I know the armour that you must be referring to. I have 2/5 of the things you need for that and have got through the first barrier to it. I want it haha.

I will but it will be a while I think. My next main mission is the Grave Hoard which sounds so delightful haha. Even though I’m a level much higher than what is suggested for it I’m taking my time in moving forward with the story. I really don’t want it to end (even though I have the Frozen Wilds after).

      7. That sounds like how I played! I did all the side stuff first and found myself over-leveled for the main missions, haha. Grave Hoard is definitely a fun time 🙂

  4. I’ve been playing Shining Resonance Refrain. I never played the original but this is a great JRPG! Sounds like you have a lot of your plate. I was never good at playing more than 2 different games at once. How do you find the balance?

    1. I find that if I have a range of games on the go then when I don’t feel like playing something I have another option to pick up. My Kinect games I treat as separate as they are ones I just pick up and put down as and when. I find it hard to keep to one game and one game only as I know I’ll have a day that I don’t feel like playing it and then feel obligated to play it. I don’t know if I have balance as I play them when I feel like playing them but it isn’t necessarily having my time shared evenly between the games.

      1. Interesting, that’s for sharing that. I usually have a “main” game I’m working on and then have a more relaxing game on the side in case I need a break or just don’t feel like thinking so hard. I guess we all game differently!

      2. I realise the way I play is definitely not for everyone. Sometimes I do get into phases where I am completely enthralled by one game and that’s all I play without feeling like I want to mix it up with other games. That doesn’t always last a month but it can. Generally I want a mix of games especially across genres, like I don’t think I could just play a platformer even though I love them but if I got stuck then I would just get too frustrated I think if I felt I had to keep going. At the moment my “main” game is Horizon Zero Dawn with Crash Bandicoot N-sane Trilogy as backup, then Kinect games on the side (going by my plans for this month anyway). I mean that probably means that I will play other games as I feel in the mood for them but they are the ones I want to play in August.

  5. I need to check out the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy but I’ve been too preoccupied with Resident Evil games and the newest Wolfenstein games. I’m going on a mission to find the scariest games to give me a heart attack.

  6. Very new to WordPress, but one of the best games that I have played is Software Inc (I’m more into the management style games). For PS4, I’ve recently gotten into Fallout 4 quite a bit as well! Hows Horizon Zero Dawn treating you so far?

    1. I really loved Horizon Zero Dawn. There is lots to explore and find out through the story and side quests or just general exploring, I loved the character of Aloy and seeing how people interacted with her and the setting was wonderful. I have finished it now but would highly recommend it for anyone considering it, I really want to play it again but have moved on for now.
